I found the background essay interesting in this article "Role Of Government In Agriculture".

I think the roles of government regulation and state regulation is very important to be used cohesively. The biggest complaint I always hear is that some states, like California, over regulates agriculture policy. Government policy trumps state policy, but it is very important that each state has their own policies to add to the government policies. It helps to ensure areas of needed protection. It helps maintain safer working conditions. It also helps farmers use special needs products in areas that may need these products, which are prohibited in some federal laws. Sometimes I get frustrated with the lobbyists, which are about 90% metropolitan and have little knowledge of rural areas. Let alone agriculture, but for the most part, I see a lot of policies in place designed to protect me, workers and our land. It is the special areas such as special needs, marketing and areas such as this that I see an advantage to state policy vs. federal policy.
