Research Report Information Sheet
Overview of Assignment
Although you are provided with the research data, your task is to write a research report as if you had conducted the study. The report will contain an Introduction, Results, and Discussion section, and comply with APA style requirements for a research report.
You do not need to include the Methods section in your report as the details about the study are provided in this document. That is, information about the materials and procedure employed are provided in the methods section in this document.Wewill discuss these measures in class and the tutorials during the semester.
The overarching research question is to assess and report the relationships between the Therapy of Planned Behaviour explanatory (predictor) variables andalcohol consumption. Please see the articles listed in the reference list. Together these explain the Therapy of Planned Behaviour(TPB) and illustrate how TPB or related constructs have been employed to predict alcohol consumption.
For now, I recommend reading thereview article by Cooke,Dahdah, Norman, and French(2016) as well as the original TPB articles by Ajzen (1991).
These two articles will give you anoverview of the theory and it application. There are two other references listed which you may find helpful when starting to draft yourreport introduction. I will provide an overview of how to structure an introduction in class.
At the end of the introduction, you will specify several research hypotheses that are to be tested (e.g., the statistics you will have to conduct).
I have provided some questions below which need to be developed into research hypotheses. There is also an opportunity to develop two of your own hypotheses based on your reading and the variables provided in the data set. This will become clearer as you read around the topic and explore these concepts further during the semester.
Specific Research Questions to be addressed:
The research questions shown below need to be developed into research hypotheses.Keep in mind that a research hypothesis needs to be specific and testable.
1. Are the attitudes, subjective norms(or social norms), and perceived behavioural control all related to general community members intention to use alcohol?
2. Can peoples intentions to use alcohol tell us anything about problematic alcohol use?
3. Is there any evidence to suggest males and femalesdiffer in attitudes, subjective norms or perceived behavioural control?
In addition to these questions, you are expected to develop two more hypotheses.
In the results section of the report, you will perform the appropriate tests to determine whether there is any support for your hypotheses.Keep in mind that each research hypothesis needs to be clearly stated and tested using one of the techniques covered in this unit (e.g., correlations or t-tests).
