Discussion Post: Many Histories
Review the arguments over ratifying the Constitution. Read the documents Republican Remedy. (In earlier editions of the textbook, this may be called Dueling Documents and be on a different page.) Answer each question in several complete sentences. Refer to specific statements in each document when appropriate. There are 3 questions:
o How did Madison define the difference between a democracy and a republic?
o On what grounds did "Brutus" argue against large republics?
o Has our republican form of government been successful at avoiding the kinds of oppression and "improper projects" that Madison describes?
The response must include a reference list. Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
