Social Media to Deliver Public Health Information
In this discussion, we will be talking about the use of technology in public health research, and also the use of social media for the delivery of health information messages that are used by health education campaigns, and related efforts used in health, and disease prevention and control. In this context do the following:
1. Using the readings from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CDC widgets, or the article "8 Great Public Health Campaigns Using Social Media," identify the major types of media that are currently used in health and disease prevention and control. Summarize your thoughts about this new trend and also give your opinion about the advantages and disadvantages of using social media in public health.
2. Check the readily available health information Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Emergency Text Messages that can be delivered using social media devices. Pick one example, follow the instructions on how to use any of health information messages, pick the format that calls your attention, share this information with one of your friends, or two of your fellow learners using any social media channel: web, e-mail, or phone. After having the experience of using these "pre-made messages," write a short report, as part of this discussion, about your experience. Is it fun? Is it practical? Is it useful?
3. Write a summary that integrates both of the above completed steps and give your opinion about the benefits of using social media in public health. Also, express your opinion about the convenience and practical applications of these methods that can be used to reach the population that sometimes do not have time to read about health, disease, and control of common health problems.
