The following short answer questions are in two parts. You must respond to the questions in each part.

Your responses may be recorded or presented in a written format. Written responses for each answer should be approximately 100 - 200 words in length. The written responses may be presented in narrative or bullet point format.

Part A:

First read through the Guide to the National Quality Standard that you have saved or printed for your Resource Kit. Familiarise yourself with the layout of the Guide noting the Quality Areas, Standards and Elements. Then, using the Guide to the National Quality Standard, answer the following questions:

a) How is the Guide organised?
b) How does the Guide suggest services work with the Standards?
c) What is the purpose of the reflective questions under the Standards?
d) How does the Guide suggest services work with the Elements?
e) What is the purpose of the examples of practice within the Elements?

Part B:

After answering the questions above in Part A, locate the ‘Summary table of quality areas, standards and elements' in the Guide.

Choose one Quality Area from the summary table, then go to the relevant section of the Guide for details of the Standards and Elements under the Quality Area you have chosen, answer the following questions.

a) How many Standards are there in your chosen Quality Area? (In your answer state the Quality Area chosen, and specify how many Standards there are in it).

b) How might a service use the ‘Questions to guide reflection on practice' included in the Standards?

c) How many Elements under the Standards are there in your chosen Quality Area?

d) How might a service use the ‘Assessment Guides' under each Element?
