How is production planned from customer demand to production

Assignment:

The Company is MAC Cosmetics

This course focuses on the management of processes and the value adding activities that are used to deliver the product (either a good or service) to the customer. The group term project requires that a process be identified, flowcharted, and analyzed. Your group may choose one of the following two options.

Option 1: Choose an existing process for providing a company's goods or services, and then flowchart the existing process (or supply chain). (For example, a member of your group is responsible for developing personal financial plans for their customers; map the process of preparing the plans.)

Option 2: For a new product proposal, develop a production process and then design, flowchart and analyze the process. The project is centered on a 25-minute presentation of your analysis to the class. Your analysis of the process should cover the applicable and important areas of process management as it relates to your chosen project.

Your report will address the following 5 items as applicable to your project. Your written executive summary should have sections with these five titles:

1. A clear indication of how the process supports the strategy of the company.

2. A detailed readable process flow chart including inputs, outputs, activities, activity times, processing and labor requirements.

3. Suggested metrics to measure the process as it is relevant to company's operations strategy.

4. A general capacity analysis of the process including the strategies used to address expected customer demand.

5. Possible process or supply chain improvements and their effect on your chosen metrics. Additional possible relevant issues include:

• Customer demand and process capacity relationships.

• How is production planned, from customer demand to production schedules?

• Quality Management issues.

• Product delivery issues.

• The interfaces of the process with both the external and internal customers.

• Suggestions on the expansion and contraction of production capacity?

• Other applicable process or supply chain management issues or concerns.
