For your discussion assignment, select two questions from below - one from Group A and one from Group B. Please answer both in their entirety - 350 minimum word count not including questions or citations. Your own thoughts and feedback responses should be supported by information from the textbook and/or outside sources. Please remember, if you use an outside source please site to explain, analyze, etc. your response - please cite.
The Reasons for War - Group A:
1) What are the five reasons for bargaining failure? Provide a summary of each and explain how bargaining relates to our course.
2) Explain the difference between rational and non-rational actors. List the three examples that are provided in our reading. Select one example and explain how it relates to our course.
3) Describe how bargaining might fail. What are possible issue/barriers/problems that could cause failure? In your opinion, how could these be corrected or avoided?
4) What is democratic peace? Using the readings and outside sources (please cite), do you believe it is an accurate assumption? Why or why not?
5) How does the arms race relate to our reading? Does 'arming' escalate or de-escalate conflict according to the reading? Provide examples from the readings and/or outside sources.
Ethnic and Non-Ethnic Wars - Group B:
1) What are the causes of ethnic (identity) wars? Do these causes relate to forced displacement and/or mass migration? Why or why not? Explain and support your analysis.
2) What are the causes of non-ethnic (civil) wars? Do these causes relate to forced displacement and/or mass migration? Why or why not? Explain and support your analysis.
3) Analysis and evaluate the reading. Do you feel it provides an accurate assessment of the drivers/causes of ethnic and non-ethnic wars? Are there questions you feel are unanswered or missing information or possible biases. Use your own words and insight supported by this article, as well as, additional outside readings.
