Discuss the underlying assumption of environmental

A simple equation I learned a long time ago in college helps simply explain the causes of crime. Desire + opportunity = crime. In school we study the desire part through the various theories in the causes of crime, but not until recently in history have we started discussing the opportunity portion of this equation, which is reducing criminal opportunities through environmental manipulation. Discuss the underlying assumption of environmental criminology. Do you think this assumption is correct? How is this assumption different than that of many of the other methods of crime control that we have discussed so far? Then, briefly discuss some examples of environmental manipulation aimed at reducing crime and your opinion on them.
