The author of the non-fiction book you selected I chose New Jack described their personal experience with prison and prison life. They discussed a number of different topics covered in Pollock's text such as the inmate code, the prison black market, violence and sex in prison, and the correctional officer subculture. Your assignment for the final paper is to select three different topics discussed by Pollock and described by the author of your non-fiction book. You should then compare and contrast the author's personal experience or illustration of each topic with the prior research that was presented by Pollock.
For example, Newjack discusses the correctional officer subculture. Is Conover's description of the subculture consistent with what research has found? How is his description similar? How does his description differ? In addition to comparing the authors' experience to the research presented by Pollock, for each topic, you need to locate one peer-reviewed academic journal article that presents research on the topic. You should provide an overview of the article and then discuss how it relates to the author's experience.
Outline: for the 5 page paper

General requirements:

Papers that fail to meet the minimum page requirement will receive an automatic 20% reduction.
Papers should be typed, double-spaced using 12 pt. Times New Roman font with 1 inch margins
Include a title page
Do not put your name, date, class, etc. on the first page of text. All of this information should go on the title page. If this information is included on the first page of text, it will be deleted and if it makes your paper less than the 5 page minimum, the 20% reduction will be enforced.
References and in-text citations should be in APA format. You will need to cite both Pollock and your nonfiction book in addition to the three peer-reviewed journal articles. For help with APA format.
Use quotes sparingly. The majority of your paper should be paraphrased. While it is acceptable to use a quote from the nonfiction book to help illustrate your point, these should be used minimally. There should be no more than 1 to 2 short quotes (fewer than 40 words) per topic discussed (a total of 6 quotes maximum). Failure to abide by this limit will result in points being deducted. Also note that you need to be sure to cite within the text. Failure to do so constitutes plagiarism and will result in a "0" on the paper and being reported to student conduct.
