A power plant with a design capacity of 600 MW is operated with 36% thermal efficiency and operated at 70% of the design capacity averaged over a year. This power plant burns bituminous coal yielding a heating value of 13,600 Btu/ lb coal and containing 1.6% sulfur. Assume that 97% of sulfur entering the plant is converted to sulfur dioxide (SO2). The power plant is equipped with a 80% efficiency SO2 removal unit. Determine the emission rate of SO2 in lb/hr.
