1. Cathy tends to be a cat whenever it is time for free choice in her kindergarten classroom. She is shunned by the other children who are engaged in playing house. They tell her that cats aren't allowed in this apartment building.

2. Peter and Jake continuously argue over the trikes on the preschool playground. The minute the classroom door opens outside, they race for possession. You've talked to them about sharing but it hasn't worked.

3. Juliet, age 5, is limited in her ability to speak English. Spanish is her home language. She runs away when other children approach her to invite her to play.

4. Jerry, age 8, is standing by the fence, watching the boys in a soccer game. He is new to the school this fall. He looks as if he'd like to play but doesn't know how to start.
