Assignment:
We are going to be examining social norms, and the consequences of breaking social norms, by participating in a norm breaking activity
Option: Participate in a norm breaking activity.
Once you choose your option, and view or participate in the activity, you will write a two-page review of what you encountered.
1. Introduce your paper by telling the reader what you did (or viewed).
2. Identify what social norm was broken, and explain why that particular norm exists.
3. Describe how others reacted to the norm breaking event they witnessed.
4. Explain how the norm breaking activities were sanctioned by onlookers, and explain those sanctions thoroughly. Were the sanctions formal or informal? Were the sanctions positive or negative in nature?
5. Conclude the paper by reflecting on the experience. How did you or the person you were watching feel when they were breaking the social norm? How did you or the person feel when you saw other people's reactions to the norm breaking activity?
