Compute the amount of zinc metal in grams

Find the mass of a reactant using Dalton's law of partial pressures, ideal gas law, and stoichiometry.

1. A piece of sodium metal reacts completely with water as follows:

2Na(s) + 2H2O (1) → 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)

The hydrogen gas generated is collected over water at 25.0oC. The volume of the gas is 246 mL measured at 1.00atm. Calculated the number of grams of sodium used in the reaction.(vapour pressure of water at 25oC = 0.0313 atm)

2. A Sample of Zinc metal reacts completely with an excess of hydrochloric acid:

Zn(s) + 2HCL→ ZnCL2 + H2 (g)

The Hydrogen gas produced is collected over water at 25.0oC using an arrangement similar to that shown. The volume of the gas is 7.80L and the pressure is 0.980atm. Compute the amount of zinc metal in grams consumed in the reaction.(Vapour pressure of water at 25oC-23.8mmHg)
