You are a student teacher at Little Pals Preschool.  Mrs. Kumar, the director, is interviewing Ms. Perez, mother of four-year- old Andrea.  Ms. Perez is considering enrolling her daughter in the school.

"Here's our brochure, Ms. Pereaz.  We have an excellent program.  Our local community college frequently places student teachers in our classrooms.  You are quite lucky because we actually will have an opening next week in the four-year-old's room.  Please follow me; I'm sure you would like to see the classroom."

As they approach a classroom door, Ms. Perez notices that the school's interior is freshly painted and spotlessly clean.  As they enter the classroom for the four-yuear0oldeschildren, Ms. Perez notes that the room is quiet and tidy.  All the children are seated, working on what look to be photocopied.  Mrs. Kumar whispers that the cooperating teacher, who is applying smiley face stickers on some of the children's papers, and introduce her.  As the student teacher, you are helping children at one of the tables.  Many elaborate pieces of  child decorate the walls, along with alphabet letters, numerals, word charts, and crayoned pages of coloring books. A world globe and a collection of library books are available.   A computer and television set sit along one wall.  The center of the room features a large, colorful round rug that Mrs. Kumar says is used for group instruction.

Mr. Kumar enthusiastically describes extra lessons in dance that take place  1 day a week.  These lessons are available if parents so choose.  Mrs. Lumar shows Ms. Perex the pay yard.  It is full of expensive, commercially designed, large climbing structures, swinging bridges, and slides.  It looks like an elaborate, well-tended city park.
