Hate crimes According to Merriam-Webster, hate crime is any of various crimes (such as assault or defacement of property) when motivated by hostility to the victim as a member of a group (such as one based on color, creed, gender, or sexual orientation). In the past groups like the KKK would hide behind white cloaks to carry out erroneous behavior, while still maintaining their anonymity.

Today however, people can reach the masses spreading their sick and twisted version of reality via the internet. While we do not have to visit the sites that spread this hatred, there are many other ways they spread their message. One of the other forms used to spread the hatred is via the use of video games and music.

Resistance Records happens to be one of the companies that distribute such material. They portray people as animals when they are executed or marginalize people in songs. In doing research for this post, I attempted to find the site (resistance.com) thankfully the site was 404, server not found. While most of us do not agree with this type of behavior, there are still people who actively participate in it. Just last week, the University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale had flyers left on student's cars promoting hate speech and racism.

In an article from the Daily Egyptian (dailyegyptian.com) "On Thursday, SIUC Chancellor Carlo Montemagno sent out an email with the subject "Discouraging bigotry and celebrating diversity" to students in response to a flier that has been circulating social media accusing an SIU student of being a Nazi. The flier names the student and demands that his financial aid be revoked by the University. Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Lori Stettler, said in an official statement the university cannot prohibit the free speech of a student and revoke their financial aid." The reason that this type of filth can still be spread is do to the United States Constitution, more specifically the First Amendment.

It states Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. While some claim that the Constitution is outdated and needs to be rewritten, I do not believe this.

While the vast majority of Americans disagree publicly on many topics, the right to express your opinion and write about it is still one of many items that define who we are and how we live. As we learn in Romans 8:28, And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things?

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things
