More than four decades after the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have Dream" speech, Americans are still struggling to achieve equality and peace among people of different races and ethnicities. The criminal justice system is one of many arenas in which equality and peace still have not been fully realized. The number of minorities in criminal justice professions is increasing, perhaps due to mechanisms such as affirmative action and other nongovernmental initiatives. Interracial and interethnic conflicts, however, continue to create problems in criminal justice workplaces.
