Expert
A solenoid may be a thin wire looped, or wrapped, around the metallic object. When the electricity is passed along the wire, a magnetic field is produced. A solenoid may also be a transducer which transforms the energy in linear motion. It may be used as the switch in order to turn something on or off.
Computer motherboards consist of the solenoids and carry out different functions. One significant function is to help control the power coming from the power supply, for minimizing the chance of the voltage spikes and the motherboard damage.
