At the time if any process necessitates more memory than it is currently assigned, the Kernel carries out Expansion swap. To do this Kernel reserves sufficient space in the swap device. Accordingly the address translation mapping is changed for the new virtual address space however the physical memory is not assigned. At last Kernel swaps the process into the allotted space in the swap device. Further when the Kernel swaps the process into the main memory this allocates memory according to the new address translation mapping.
