This is a type of satellite that is primarily employed to monitor the weather & climate of the Earth. Satellites can be either polar orbiting, seeing the similar swath of the Earth every 12 hours, or geostationary, hovering over the similar spot on Earth by orbiting over the equator whereas moving at the speed of the Earth’s rotation. However , These meteorological satellites see more than clouds and cloud systems. City lights, fires, auroras, effects of pollution, sand & dust storms, snow cover, ice mapping, energy flows, boundaries of ocean currents, etc., are other types of environmental information gathered using weather satellites.
