Briefly describe the relationship between the VPN and firewalls?

As VPNs were accessible before firewalls through encrypting routers and modems, they came to general use running on or with the firewalls. Nowadays, most of the people would expect a firewall vendor to propose a VPN option. As well, they want it managed through the similar firewall management interface. However then, users nowadays seem to want nearly the whole thing on firewall: name server, mail server, proxy servers for HTTP, FTP server, directory server and so forth.
