Theory X and Y of motivation were proposed by Douglas. The main difference between such theories is illustrated below:

- Theory X gets a negative sight of the employees whereas the Theory Y gets a positive sight.

- Theory X believes that employees are lazy and don’t like work whereas Theory Y thinks that employees enjoy working life.

- Theory X thinks that money is the only motivation for work whereas Theory Y thinks that the satisfaction that employees attain subsequent to doing a work well is a superior motivation.

- Theory X thinks in doing the business in a demanding way whereas Theory Y tries to eliminate the barriers employees discover in the way of their work.
