The hormones formed by the thyroid gland stimulate the basal metabolism of body. In hyperthyroidism, there is unusually high production and secretion of T3 and T4 therefore the basal metabolic rate is raised. The signs of this condition might be tachycardia (that is, abnormally high heart rate), excessive heat sensation, weight loss, excessive sweating, anxiety, and so forth.
