The structure of spermatogonia in male happens during the embryonic period. The structure of sperm cells however is a uninterrupted process that starts in puberty and goes on until old age and from time to time during all the remaining life of the male.  In female all oogonia are produced before birth. The oogonia become oocytes I which enter the very first division of meiosis (meiosis I). This division however is broken up at prophase and continuous only in puberty. Following the beginning of menses, an egg cell is released during every period and, if fecundated, it finishes the meiotic division. The oogenesis discontinues after menopause (cessation of the menstrual action) and the climacteric phase of life begins.
