Differentiation between Dimensional Modeling and ER Modeling
Give a brief differentiation between Dimensional Modeling and ER Modeling?
Expert
Dimensional modeling is extremely flexible for the user viewpoint. Dimensional data model is mapped for making schemas. Whereas, ER Model is not mapped for making schemas and doesn’t employ in conversion of normalization of data into demoralized forms.
ER Model is employed for OLTP databases which utilizes any of the first or second or third normal forms, where as dimensional data model is used for data warehousing and uses third normal form.
ER model holds normalized data whereas Dimensional model holds denormalized data.
