Cotyledons, or seed leaves, are structures formed by embryo of the angiosperms to absorb nutrients from endosperm and to store and transfer these nutrients to embryo. (Cotyledons are auxiliary embryonic structures).

Seeds of the monocots have a single cotyledon. Seeds of the dicots have two cotyledons.
