Branchiae, as well termed as gills, are small parts of richly vascularized tissues internal or exterior to the body and in direct contact with surrounding water. The gills are organs which make gas exchange in the aquatic annelids, fishes, crustaceans, and amphibian larvae (example: tadpoles).
