You will be assigned by your ta a case study of a person

Question: You will be assigned by your ta a case study of a person suffering from one or more psychological disorders which will be on your Blackboard site. (You may not write your paper on any case study other than the one assigned you. You will not get a grade on the paper if you write on a different case study.) You will be using the concepts from Section 4 of the syllabus to discuss how to diagnose the person, understand possible causes of the disorder, and treat the disorder.

1. The first paragraph should be an Introduction as described in the syllabus.

The next four paragraphs should be based upon the suggestions for "Body Paragraphs" in the syllabus, with topic, supporting, and concluding sentences.

2. Using concepts from week 12 (we are going out of order here), discuss in paragraph 2 the psychological disorder from which the person in your case study suffers. Select only one disorder and be sure to present all of the evidence supporting your choice of that particular disorder.

3. In paragraph 3, use one concept from week 11 to discuss a psychoanalytic process that may be affecting the person in your case study. To make it easier, think of using the psychoanalytic concepts either as possible causes of the symptoms or as possible effects of exhibiting those symptoms.

4. In paragraph 4, use a concept from week 13 to discuss how you might treat the problem experienced by the person in your case study. If you wish, you may add to this paragraph discussion of the use of medication to treat the person using concepts from week 12 but you still must use a therapy concept from week 13.

5. 4. Paragraph 5 should be based upon the "Conclusion" section in the syllabus.

This course includes training in information technology as part of your general education. The remainder of the assignment deals with that topic.

6. Find a full-text article from a journal or magazine that deals with the disorder you selected in paragraph 2. Print out the first page of that article and attach it to your paper. Do not include this page in what you submit to SafeAssign.

7. Find an abstract from an article (not the same article used for the full-text assignment in number 6) in a professional psychology journal that deals with the disorder you selected. Print out the abstract of that article and attach it to your paper.

8. Find the name of a book that deals with the disorder you selected. Write the name of the book, the authors, the publisher and the year of publication on the last page of your paper.

The Anatomy of an Essay

Structure to be used in writing papers other than Paper 4

Introduction: Begins ("introduces") your essay

Contains your Thesis Statement: one sentence that states clearly what position you will take in the essay

Introduces reasons/evidence that you will discuss in detail in the body paragraphs

Body Paragraphs: All sentences are related to ONE main idea

The TOPIC SENTENCE: - Supports the Thesis Statement of the essay

- Introduces the idea that guides the paragraph and lets the reader know what to expect

- Should be a specific idea that needs to be proven

SUPPORTING SENTENCES: - Related to topic sentence and controlling ideas

- Offer evidence, to support, describe, or define the topic

- Can answer the questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why, or How (a.k.a. the "5 W's")

CONCLUDING SENTENCE: - Re-states the main idea, offers a solution or prediction, answers any unresolved questions

Conclusion: Signals the end of the essay and leaves the reader with a final thought

Can be a call to action (What do you want the reader to do?)

Can be a final point that ties together all the ideas in the essay

Can ask a question that leaves the reader with a final problem to think about
