You are to design a small network

1. You are to design a small network (less than 50 but greater than 20 nodes) for an organization of choice consisting of multiple operating systems, security mechanisms, and devices. The design you propose must implement a defense in depth structure and be as secure as possible. For each security mechanism that is implemented, you must describe in detail why you picked the item, what it mitigates, and why it is better than other solutions that perform the same job. Your objective is to make the network as secure as possible. Each security mechanism implemented correctly will earn you 1 point. Each item that is implemented incorrectly will take away 1 point. A max of 15 points will be deducted for improper use/implementation of defense in depth or mitigation strategy.

2. Describe in detail all the steps Internet Explorer must go through when you click on a web page and traverse the network created in the previous exercise. Don't forget to include protocols involved (i.e. TCP, UDP, DNS), their specifics (ports, addresses), network devices (gateways/routers) and any of the security mechanisms implemented in your network. To assist your explanation, you may include pictures/screen shots of actual system commands (ipconfig/ifconfig, arp -a ...). You MUST be as descriptive as possible to receive full credit.
