Assignment Task:
Part A: For this week, reflect on your experience with satire. What satire how you read or watched? What kind of satire would you want to analyze for assignment?
Part B: Assignment Check-In is a 1-2 minute recorded presentation in which you will (just write it out and I will record it)
1. Describe what satirical essay or article you are choosing to satirically analyze?
2. What you hope to argue in your satirical analysis?
3. What source or sources you might be using to bolster your argument?
Part C: Assignment: Satirical Analysis Essay
What is it?
1. You will be asked to write a 3-4 page satirical analysis paper in which you break down the effectiveness of your chosen satirical essay or article. Need Assignment Help?
2. For this satirical analysis, you will assess how your chosen satirical essay or article uses the specific tools of satire to make its point. You can argue for its success and/or failure as an article by analyzing how it uses the strategies of
- Exaggeration
- Understatement
- Incongruity
- Reversal
- And/or parody
- Note, no satire will use all of these at the same time
3. Format: Your paper should include a central argument that is proven through an organized, multi-paragraph structure.
- Introduction: includes an opener and your central thesis
- 3-5 paragraphs. Each paragraph should include evidence (in MLA format) that you use to prove or sustain your argument
- A conclusion that suggests why it is important to point out the efficacy (or lack thereof) of the satirical essay you have analyzed
- MLA style bibliography
4. Evidence: You will be asked to mainly analyze your chosen satirical essay, but you can use other sources as needed to bolster your claims. Again, please cite using MLA format
5. By the end of your satirical analysis, you will have presented the context of your chosen satirical essay, made an argument about its success or lack thereof, and used evidence from the essay (as well as other sources as needed) to prove your argument
