Assignemnt: Project Approval Request

Instructions

WA3 ASSIGNMENT: In preparation for writing assignment #3, you have identified a problem or need in your workplace or in your community for which you would like to recommend a solution.

Write a Project Approval Request to the decision-maker for your major course project. Describe the unsolved problem, explain thoroughly your research so far, and end with a direct, specific request for approval to finish the project.

Address your memo to [Zach Rios, Claims Manager] who can give the go-ahead to turn your proposed solution into action. If the decision-maker is someone inside your organization, the request should be in Memo Format.

Structure your Project Approval Request using the following TEMPLATE (with all headings):

A. Introduction: A proposal to conduct a research study.

B. Body:

1. Background
2. Benefits
3. Research Methods
4. Time Required & Budget
5. Final End-Product
6. Due Date & Delivery Method
7. Qualifications & Experience

C. Conclusion: A formal request for approval.

LENGTH: About 2 to 2 and-a-half pages.

TIPS FROM THE PROFESSOR:

For writing assignment #3, you will write the proposal memo. In this proposal memo, you will seek approval to begin work on this project, which will include an investment of your time to conduct primary and secondary research.

You goal in writing the memo is to receive formal permission from these decision-makers by convincing them that, first, there is legitimate problem or need to be addressed and, second, that there are reasonable recommendations and solutions that make sense for your company or community organization.

• The introduction of the memo should clearly state that you are proposing to carry out a study. The introduction should also make reference to any previous discussions you have had about your plans with any individuals named in the memo's header.

• The body of the memo should have the following information:

• the background of the problem or need

• the benefits to the company or community that will accrue by virtue of you doing this study

• how you will conduct the study (methods and procedures; these are especially important if you will be doing any internal surveying, interviewing, or data collection)

• the amount of time you will need to invest in doing this work as well as any budget or help you will need

• what you will deliver at the end of the process and when you will deliver it

• your qualifications and experience that will enable you to be successful in this endeavor

• The conclusion should contain the formal request for approval. It should also remind the decision-makers of the benefits that will accrue due to your work.

Each writing assignment should be in APA document style with a title page plus a running head. The running head gives a short version of the paper's title (in the upper-left corner) and page number for each page (in the upper-right corner).

UNSOLVED PROBLEMS TO MENTION IN PAPER:

• Various changes to policy with limited time for claim associates to familiarize themselves with the new procedure. At this time claims associates learn as they are on the phone with a customer.

o Claim associate will feel more confident if they are already familiar and trained with the new procedure than on the phone with a customer trying to figure it out. The customer will trust and believe the claim associate/State Farm

• Daily huddles (team meetings) need to be held in secluded areas instead of near other claim associates who are handling calls.

o Team will be able to focus in secluded areas. Less distractions

• Daily Huddle times are 5 min each each. Unable to discuss concerns or to clarify the huddle topic

o May suggest 15 min huddle times every other day.
