Working with continuous distribution

Assume you tell one of your fellow students that when working with continuous distribution, it doesn't make sense to try to calculate the probability of any particular value since it will be zero. She says that, when the experiment is carried out some value should occur, the probability can't be zero. Your task is to respond to her statement and in doing so explain why it is appropriate to find the probability for specific ranges of values for a continuous distribution.
