Why the nature of the process is unspecified

One mole of an ideal, monatomic gas initially at STP (Ti = 0oC, Pi =1 atm, Vi =22.4 L) experiences a reversible process in which the pressure is doubled. The nature of the process is unspecified, but ?U is 900 cal and q is 400 cal. (1 cal = 4.184 J)

a.Calculate the final T and V (call them Tf and Vf), and ?H and w for the process.

b.Suppose that the gas was taken to the same final state, but by a two-step process consisting first of an isobaric change and then an isothermal one, both reversible. Calculate the overall values of ?H, ?U, q and w for this sequence.
