Assignment:
Q1. In the required reading for this week, Allen notes that, "Resettlement in [Pennsylvania] did not, of course, mean [Quaker] freedom from disease, inequality, or persecution. During Penn's second visit to the colony in 1700, he discovered that there had been an outbreak of yellow fever, which had resulted in a large number of deaths. At the same time, Penn spoke out against slave holding. In 1704, John Kelsall had observed in his diary that the settlers in Virginia were not well disposed towards the Friends at Philadelphia, and the London Yearly Meeting had to send some literature to members to combat the verbal onslaughts. In a letter in October 1706 to Kelsall, Rowland Ellis informed him that the non-Quaker deputy-governor, John Evans, had seized upon a false rumour of an imminent French invasion of Pennsylvania. According to Ellis, 'a more unsuitable man to govern a colony of Quakers' could not be found. It seems clear that Evans was attempting to test the Quaker pacifist credentials by forcing them to take military action in order to defend themselves." Against this challenging backdrop, why do you think the Quaker settlement in Pennsylvania endured? Need Assignment Help?
Q2. As background for this Discussion, review the Week 7/8 Assignment - Reflection summary. This is an important feature of the Capstone course. This Discussion will help you in preparation of this Assignment. One of the elements you will cover in your Reflection summary is the following question: What were your strengths at the beginning of the program, and how did you leverage them to succeed? (List at least 3) How will you continue leveraging these strengths going forward with your career development plan? Think about how you will answer this question.
PROMPT: For this week's Discussion:
1. Describe one (1) of your strengths that you will relate in your Reflection summary; and
Explain how you will continue leveraging this strength going forward with your career development plan.
In your peer replies, remember to ask thoughtful questions to help each other's reflection on this question.
Q3.
Tip: Your submissions to this discussion should not be repeats of last week's posts; this one has a different focus and different solutions. A hint may be found in the assignment's title, "Infant Grief and Loss." Think about why and how infants might experience grief and loss in addressing the situation. In a structured childcare program for the infants and toddlers of teen mothers, the very youngest infants are in one small room with a caregiver. At 4 months, the infants are moved to the next room, with a new caregiver. At 8 months, they are moved again-and so on, until age 3. An observer noted, "On the day I visited the center, the caregiver of the youngest infants was standing in the doorway of her room, watching the caregiver in the next room try to comfort a tiny, crying infant. The first caregiver looked upset. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, 'That baby was with me for the past three months; I really love him.'
Q4. The National Head Start Association (NHSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to lead and support Head Start Programs across the country. Review their website paying special attention to the sections Head Start in the News and the information included under the Research tab. Share what information you have learned about Head Start and its benefits for young children and their families.
Q5. You have recently been hired by a state health department to direct surveillance activities for notifiable diseases, among other tasks. All notifiable disease surveillance data are entered and stored in computer files at the state and transmitted to CDC once each week. CDC publishes the data for all states each week in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, but health department staff does not routinely review these data in the MMWR. The state has never generated its own set of tables for analysis and dissemination, and you believe it would be valuable to do so to educate and increase interest among health department staff.
What three tables might you want to generate by computer each week for use by health department staff?
You next decide that it would be a good idea to share these data with healthcare providers as well. What tables or figures might you generate for distribution to healthcare providers, and how frequently would you distribute them?
