1. Why does Kerry react the way he does to a simple thing such as Ted rearranging his office? After all, why not just let Ted restructure his office?
2. What do simple matters such as how an office is arranged, where it is located, or the type of furniture in it communicate about the office's inhabitant?
3. According to Ted, organizational communication is "down-the-line oriented." What does he mean by this? In terms of its content, how would you describe the general nature of down-the-line communication? What would he the general nature of communication sent up the line?
4. Compare Ted's view of status and communication with Kerry's. It may help to think about the difference between the technical/rational versus the cultural/interpretive perspectives of organization behavior and then identify which view is best aligned with Kerry's and Ted's actions, respectively, in this story.
5. Ted's office restructuring was intended to increase communication between lower level ants and management. What other strategies (besides office restructuring) can't accomplish this goal?
