Case Study Analysis

Introduction

The importance of communication and organization are important skills to maintain in the workforce. The case study that I will present will give you the reasoning of my topic and how you can apply this to your life. It is important to be prepared at all levels in life be it personal or professional.

Background

Carl Robins was hired as a campus recruiter and has been on the job for six months; accomplished the task of hiring several new hires in early April. He hired 15 new hires to work under the guidance of Monica Carrolls with the intentions of having them start the new hire orientation in June and be ready to start as employees in July. At this point, it would be a good idea to implement the directional process analysis which would mean step by step planning. Planning is key to ensuring deadlines are met and communication lines are open so everyone is on the same page at each stage of the training process.

Key Problems

Monica contacted Carl on May 15th with all pertinent information regarding the training class that he was to coordinate and facilitat. Carl assured Monica that he would make sure everything was in order and on task for the class that would be starting in one month. During this phase of preparation, Carl would need to make sure that the training schedule has been confirmed for the dates needed and the necessary resources are available, make sure that the new hires have taken the necessary physicals and drug testing and completed their paperwork; ultimately making sure that the manuals are updated and there are enough to accommodate for all the new hires. It is safe to say that Carl is a key player in the process of making sure the new hires have complied with all company rules and regulations and have all paperwork and testing completed and making sure that they are equipped with the knowledge needed to be successful team players on Monica's team.
Time has gone by and Carl has decided to finalize the new hires paperwork, after the Memorial Day holiday, when he realizes that some of the new hires haven't completed their applications; none of them have been drug tested and some were missing their transcripts. It has been discovered that with all the other issues, there are only three manuals and they are missing pages and not ready for use. Carl has blatantly overlooked some important steps because if he had been organized, he would have made sure that all the trainees received the necessary paperwork and deadlines to have their drug screening completed, made sure that he had a copy of a complete training manual and had enough copies for all 15 new hires; made sure that all applications were completed and the transcripts were attached to each new hires files before this time because June 15th is approaching and time is of the essence. This would be an excellent time to ask for assistance from a colleague and get the manuals copied and reach out to the new hires and have them tested immediately and have the new hires missing information to come in and complete the necessary paperwork as soon as possible. Carl needs to update Monica as well so that she may also have some suggestions on how to make sure everything is ready to go for the class that will be starting in a couple of weeks. Communication is key because if you don't communicate with your colleague, there will be misunderstandings and possible disasters that could have been avoided in the first place.

Resolutions

Carl was not organized. He should have made sure that sure that upon hire, that all the new hire's applications were completed with the attached transcripts. He should have had a paper that advised the new hires that they will need to complete a drug test and physical with the proper dates and location of the testing. The new hires at this time would be told the importance of following these steps so because there is a deadline to start the orientation class. The training room should have been booked and confirmed upon knowledge of the date of the orientation class. A complete list should have been implemented and as each process was completed Carl could proceed with the next step. The orientation class can go on as scheduled at this time or it would need to be rescheduled at a later date.

The points to remember are that the recruiters need to have good communication skills and to be organized every step of the process from start to finish. There is no" I" in team so you must learn to work together and know what resourceful tools are available for your use. Never be afraid to ask for help or go to your superior and let them know the obstacles that you are facing because again, you are working as a team. You should never give up and know that there is a feasible solution to any problem. You need to keep an open mind and use your good communication and organization skills and complete the task at hand with ease and competency.
