If I said - I like to visit lower economic neighborhoods to hang out and socialize with those raised in less fortunate situations because it reminds me of where I was raised.  That I like to support families and individuals who need extra help in making life decisions due to not having the means to improve their own situations.  I was lucky in my life of having a talent that allowed me to move into a different environment and now I want to give back to help others that have the same background in which I was raised.

If I said this - what images do you have? What demographic do you assume I am referring?

How many people would realize that I'm talking about lower economic neighborhoods having homes valued around $500,000 - and less fortunate meant they did not inherit million dollar trust funds.  That making decisions include how to get their children into Ivy league schools, and how to develop offshore accounts to hide money from tax payments.  That my talent is a knack for understanding nano-technology and neurosurgery.

But never did I mention race - I could be an African American, Asian, Caucasian or Pacific Islander!

When positioning products for various segments, how does marketing perpetuate stereotypes?  Find an article or advertisement related to this topic and discuss how the topic/message could have been presented differently so as not to disseminate thoughts of racial stereotype.
