Compute a reasonable torque for an as-received, unlubricated 1/2-32 = 4 SAE J429 GR 5 bolt in a nonsafety-related normal application ?  Compare your torque to that suggested in Appendix E ? 

When estimating bolt tension as in given Figure why do we go to the trouble of using the square root of the sum of the squares? Why not just add the error variables arithmetically?
