What you tell to dylan to resolve cultural misunderstanding

Problem

Ali 15 is a new student who has recently arrived from Syria as a war refugee and joined the year 10 class you assist with. You notice that Ali doesn't interact with others during breaks, but prefers to read quietly or listen to something playing on his headphones. He rejects all invitation to join with activities, resulting in another student, Dylan, telling other students that Ali is stuck up and that he thinks he's too good for everyone else.

Students have been listening to Dylan and are starting to alienate Ali, so you talk to Ali about forming friendships. In talking, Ali explains that he has experienced significant trauma in Syria and after feeling as a refugee. He tells you that many of his extended family and friends died in the conflict, and that social mingling with others reminds him of them and causes him anxiety and stress. He uses his school breaks to unwind, de stress and listen to podcasts in his first language. As a teacher aide what you can tell to Dylan to help him to resolve the cultural misunderstanding.
