Imagine that you have a family that has multiple challenges. The father of the family means well, but it is clear that he has cognitive issues and cannot retain information regarding the interventions that you ask him to do. The mother is frazzled and is seldom able to take time to sit with you during parent training, much less keep up with the demands of a child with Autism. They are also economically disadvantaged and, due to this, often have trouble with providing adequate clothing or even food to their children (2 other children besides the one with Autism).
Knowing this, what would you do to modify your normal parent training and other ABA strategies to help your client (the child with Autism) as well as the family, so that the best outcomes are reached given the circumstances? Please give at least 2 strategies or modifications that you would try.
