What were the topic or research questions being investigated

Assignments

Part 1

Assignment 3: Project Annotated Bibliography

Craft a research question on the topic you selected in your first discussion question post. Then locate at least five articles from peer-reviewed journals that pertain to your question that will be used to write the introduction section of your research proposal.
Submit these five citations in the form of an APA-style reference page. Under each citation, write one paragraph summarizing the main points of the article. As you read your articles, keep the following questions at hand; these will help you generate the information about each article.

• What were the topic/research questions being investigated?
• How was the study conducted (participants, materials, procedure, etc.)?
• What did the results reveal?
• How might these methodological considerations affect the research findings and the conclusions drawn from them?
• How does this article fit in with your paper? How did it influence your own ideas about your paper?

Based on your reading of the literature, what do you expect to find?

PART 2:

Instructions

Based on the feedback you received on your submission from last week, submit a revised draft of your paper with this additional information:

1. Five additional references that could be used for your research paper and include a 1-2 sentence description for each of the five additional references, explaining how they fit with the research topic and the research question proposed. Make sure that these references come from scholarly sources using Argosy's library resources.

2. A very detailed outline of what you would like to cover in the intro/lit review of your paper. Write it as an outline and think about what you want each paragraph or section to cover. Paste your references into each section where the information from that article applies to the topic. Below is an example of the outline although the references have not been pasted in yet:

a. Introduction or Statement of the Problem (e.g. Predictors of Depression in Men)

i. Research question (E.g. What factors predict depression in men? For example, age, marital status, family history, stressors).

ii. Why is it important/implications (E.g. xx% of men are depressed; less likely to seek treatment; if we can identify who is at risk, may be able to direct them to treatment sooner)

iii. Revised hypothesis based on feedback from the instructor

b. Review of the Literature (the following is an example for above topic):

i. Brief description of depression, symptoms, and any unique symptoms for men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).

ii. How widespread is it? Stats on depression in general but also stats on depression in men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).

iii. List factors that put men at risk for depression (Cite articles).

1. Difficulty communicating distress or sadness (Cite articles).
2. Job/work pressures (Cite articles).

iv. Demographic characteristics (Cite articles).

1. Relationship between age and depression (Cite articles).

2. Relationship between marital status and depression (Cite articles).

3. A 1-2 page description of the sample you would like to use for your study, that provides the answer to the following questions:

a. What sampling technique would you use?
b. Does the sample generalize to the population? Explain why or why not.
c. What inclusion criteria would be used? What exclusion criteria would be used, if any?
d. What ethical issues might be encountered when collecting your information from this sample?

PART 3:

Assignment 2: LASA 1: Project: Early Methods Section

Address the following:

In your paper for this course, you will need to write a Methods section that is about 4 pages long where you will assess and evaluate the methods of research.

In preparation for this particular section, answer the following questions thoroughly and provide justification/support. The more complete and detailed your answers for these questions, the better prepared you are to successfully write your paper.

Submit your answers as a single 4- to 6-page document as a numbered list; this will ensure you do not inadvertently miss a question.
Additionally, please submit a title page and a reference page in proper APA format.

1. What is your research question?

2. What is your hypothesis or hypotheses? What is the null hypothesis?

3. How many participants would you like to use and why? What are the inclusion characteristics, i.e., what must they have in order to be included in your study (for example, gender, diagnosis, age, personality traits, etc.)? Are there any exclusion characteristics, i.e. are there certain characteristics that would exclude them from being in your study? Does the sample need to be diverse? Why or why not?

4. What sampling technique will be used to collect your sample? What population does your sample generalize to?

5. What are the variables in your study? HINT: Refer back to your hypothesis or hypotheses.

6. Provide operational definitions for each variable.

7. How will you measure each variable? Discuss the reliability and validity of these measures in general terms.

8. What technique will be used for data collection (e.g., observation, survey, interview, archival, etc.)?

9. What type of research design is being used?

10. Briefly discuss the procedure that would be followed when conducting the research.

11. What are some POTENTIAL ethical issues? How might they be addressed?

PART 4:

Assignment 2: Project: Introduction, Literature Review, and Methods Section

In this assignment you will update the methods section for your research paper and add your introduction and literature review.

The introduction and literature review should address your research question: why it is important, and how prior research does or does not support your hypothesis, as well as providing a background on what we know about this topic.

Refer to the material on the components of a research paper provided in Module 1 as you work on this document.

Your methods section, in addition to covering the subheadings of participants, instruments, and procedure, must include a fourth subheading called ethical issues and note any ethical issues that need to be considered, as well as how they would be handled.

PART 5

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Project: Research Paper

Submit your research paper. It should include a cover page, abstract, intro/lit review, method section, results (simply report what statistics you propose to use), discussion section, and reference page.

Your paper should be double-spaced, 8 to 10 pages in length, and properly edited.

Use the following information to help you with each section:

1. Cover page: Pay attention to APA style and refer to the example in your textbook.

2. Abstract: Is written on its own page and is a very brief summary of your study. Think in terms of one sentence stating your research question, one or two sentences regarding background and what we already know about it, one or two sentences regarding your methodology (e.g., how many participants were used and how were your variables assessed), and one or two sentences about your findings.

3. Intro/lit review: incorporate the feedback and make revisions to the introduction and literature review submitted in Week 4.

4. Method section: incorporate the feedback and make revisions to the Method section submitted in Week 4.

5. Results section: in one paragraph, state what statistical test would have been used and why it was chosen.

6. Discussion section: broken down into the following paragraphs:

o paragraph 1: statement of your results/findings (or what you imagine might be your results).

o paragraph 2: what might have affected those results (i.e., threats to internal and external validity). Include flaws in your design and confounding variables.

o paragraph 3: implications for your findings including the significance and impact on the field as well as future research directions.

7. Reference page: Pay attention to APA style and refer to the example in your textbook.

Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:

1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

2. The response also include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

3. Also Include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
