What we want you to do is brainstorm a few of your favorite

Track it Back Essay

This assignment is all about you and your favorite food! What we want you to do is brainstorm a few of your favorite foods (Ex. Lindtdark chocolate with sea salt, pomegranates, coffee, Tofutti, etc.). Once you've gathered a few ideas, take some time to study your list and then pick just one food to research as you track back the different steps it went through to get to you.

Be creative as you gather information about the food you've chosen to track. You might consider any or all of the following steps as you begin your research

- Research online
- Email/call the production company
- Talk to the grocer at the store or seller at a local food stand/farmer's market
As you are researching, be sure to take notes on what you find in preparation for putting your ideas into paragraph/essay format. Your essay should address the following questions:
- What is the item you've chosen to track and why is it important to you?
- Where and how was the item grown?
- Where and how was it processed?
- Were pesticides used?
- Is the food totally organic?
- How far was it transported?
- What was the cost of production for the creator/farmer vs. the cost of purchase for you, the consumer?
- What did you learn through the process of tracking this food item?

If you're unable to answer some of these questions, don't worry! Just be sure to address this in your essay: "I was unable to find any information about . . . and . . ."

The Track it Back essay should be 2 pages in length, double-spaced, with 1" margins on all sides of the page. Please also include a Works Cited page for any outside sources that you reference in your writing.
