1. Pick a current (on TV now) 30 minute sitcom (not a reality show).
First, define the basic building blocks of culture discussed in your text. Next, apply these elements of culture to this show. In other words, use examples from the show to illustrate the building blocks.Make sure that you apply all the elements as discussed in the text.
2. Review the concepts of cultural relativism, ethnocentrism and ideal versus real culture.
Consider your own experiences and tell me about a) a time you acted with cultural relativism, b) a time you were ethnocentric and c) an example of culture ideal verses real culture.
3. Review subcultures in the text.
What role do subcultures play in our society? Do they benefit society? Harm society? Why are we sometimes so enthralled (either positively or negatively) by them?(please give specific examples)
