What risky behaviors might adolescent children engage in

Part I

Drawing on knowledge gained through Lesson 6 materials and Chapters 13, 14, and 15 in our course textbook, design a presentation on adolescent development, risky behaviors, and intervention strategies for an audience of parents who have adolescent children.

Your presentation should answer the following questions:

i. What changes in physical and cognitive development are their children experiencing at this point in their lives?
ii. What risky behaviors might adolescent children engage in, and why?
iii. What are the warning signs that indicate adolescent children are at risk?
iv. What strategies can parents implement to intervene in risky behaviors and support their children?

Since there is a lot of content in our lesson this week, you are going to have to make some choices to focus your presentation. Do not attempt to cover every aspect of development and risk. Rather, select a few connected points upon which to focus your presentation and develop these points with supportive details. Use content from the textbook and Lesson 6 materials, as well as external resources, to support the information in your presentation. Cite all sources appropriately.

Part II

Once you have designed a focused, detailed presentation on adolescent development, risk, and intervention strategies for an audience of parents, compile an annotated resource guide for parents and adolescents based on the specific topics addressed in your presentation.

Begin by conducting informal Internet research on the topics that you address in your presentation. For instance, if you discuss eating disorders, research to find support services and intervention strategies for adolescent children who struggle with this challenge. Your goal is to find at least five sources of information and support that you can compile and annotate for parents and adolescents.

Once you have located five helpful, applicable resources, cite each one appropriately so that parents and adolescents will know how to locate the resource. After each resource citation, provide a brief three-five sentence annotation (summary) of what the resource is and how it is useful for parents and adolescent children who experience a particular life challenge.
