What results from the surveillance

Problem

I. Think about a type of monitoring you have come across this week, either personally or through media. Who is watching whom? Why? Is there a distinction between the declared and actual justifications for the surveillance? What results from the surveillance? Which rights, if any, do you think the spying violates? What matters most is how this spying incident relates to freedom and power.

II. Describe any recent readings in this course that have caused you to change the way you feel or think. Consider the following scenario: You've detected a resemblance between the government of "Norsefire" and a few of our own political figures, and you've changed your opinion or attitude as a result. This could be explained. Or perhaps you don't yet have a clear connection to our own reality to make. Perhaps you simply took note of something in our reading that had a significant impact on your thinking. Cite the passage from the text (or movie) that you found significant or thought-provoking and explain how it altered your perspective or emotions.
