ASSIGNMENT :
U.S GOVERNMENT
This assignment is designed to enhance research and analytical skills. In addition, it will enable the students to demonstrate written communication skills. As seniors, many of you will continue your education at some institution of post-secondary learning. Regardless of your career choice you will he faced with the responsibility of communicating to others by using written language. As potential college students you will be required to conduct research on a given topic, be able to competently analyze required information, and present your findings in a written format.
DIRECTIONS:
1. Choose a president and indicate your choice.
2. Begin gathering data about the president you have chosen.
3. Write an essay about that particular president.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. The essay must be a minimum of three pages and a maximum of five pages in length.
2. Typewritten double spaced with 12 font size.
3. Must include the following information:
a. biographical data- birth and death (when, where, how, family) and career data (education, other professions or political offices held)
b. foreign and domestic policy analysis*
4. Minimum of three book references. Internet sources can only be used as supplementary sources and only after book sources have been used.
*POLICY ANALYSIS:
1. The essay must identify two policy decisions made by your president relating to foreign policy and two policy decisions made by your president relating to domestic policy.
a. Policy is a strategically formulated response to an immediate situation or a response to a projected/future situation.
b. Foreign policy addresses issues and guides relations with other countries.
c. Domestic policy addresses issues within a country's own territory.
