What makes east asian religions east asian

Problem 1: What makes "East Asian religions" "East Asian"? Should that label just apply to religions that are practiced in East Asia (so Chinese Buddhism in Canada is really "Canadian Buddhism")? Should it just apply to people of East Asian descent? Should it just apply to religions that are influenced by East Asian history and culture (like the Surrey Korean Presbyterian Church)? Or is it more of a "contested" category (like "religion"), where some people might want to claim East Asian identity and others might not?

Please give some reasons and an example for your thinking.

Problem 2: How is the Asian American Buddhism described by Han (2021) similar to forms of contemporary east Asian religions? In what ways might it be different?

Problem 3: "Transnational" refers to institutions, organizations, or phenomena that extend across international borders.

What is "transnational"about the spirit mediums described by FjeIstad & Nguyên?

Problem 4: Do you think American Daoism (and American Buddhism, American Lên Ðông, etc.) are a natural "next stage" in these religions' evolution? Or do you think they are something quite different and new from the religions as practiced in their lands of origin?
