What makes a dispute resolution process effective or not

Question: From the role plays in the unit workshops, and from your notes in your reflective journal, reflect on what makes a dispute resolution process effective or not effective.

This is an opportunity for you to explore in depth a particular dispute resolution process that has meaning for you. For example base your reflection on the steps of the mediation process discussed in week 5 and 7. Using your experiences during role play and supported by research, we encourage you to reflect on what makes the process effective from the perspective of both client and ‘facilitator’. It would be useful to include your observations and reflect on what contributions you could make to the field. In doing so you are linking the key themes of the books “The Art of Possibilities’,’Resolving Conflict’, your lectures and the practical workshops.

Outlined below are the key questions we would like you to expand on.

Research a Dispute Resolution process and answer the following questions;

1. Based on your observations and research, what makes a dispute resolution process effective or not.

2. Reflect on how a client may have experienced that process in relation to resolution of their conflict

3. Identify some challenges that you faced facilitating this process or more generally in relation to facilitating such a process.

4. What contribution (chapter 5 of the Art of possibilities) could you make to facilitating an effective dispute resolution process (specifically relating to the process identified or more generally)
