1) Describe how nutrients are delivered to epithelial tissues given their lack of a direct blood supply.
2) With respect to glandular epithelium, explain the difference between:
goblet cells vs. serous cells
exocrine glands vs. endocrine glands
merocrine, holocrine, vs. apocrine secretion
3) Contrast (list the differences between) the structure of epithelial tissue and the structure of connective tissue. (HINT: What are the general characteristics and typical organization of epithelial vs. connective tissue?) Can you find any structural similarities between these 2 main tissue types?
4) Define the term: membrane. What level of organization does a membrane belong to? What two tissue types is a membrane composed of? Describe the structure, function, and location of the four types of membranes found in the human body (i.e. serous, mucous, synovial & cutaneous membranes). Give specific examples of the serous membrane. (see Lab Activity #1)
