What kinds of rhetoric are used to discuss population growth

Problem

In the contemporary, how have notions about growing populations and scarce resources shaped how cities operate, how governments control citizens, how development takes place, and even how countries relate to one another on the world stage? How does Nikhil Anand discuss these issues in the context of Bombay? Consider one other example from Asia of how the population bomb (also discussed in Hydraulic City p. 31) has been used politically. What kinds of rhetoric are used to discuss population growth in this context? What fears are being expressed? Are these arguments being used to oppress particular group? Think critically about these issues, as they are often very present in our everyday conversations about the world, especially about the developing world and in conversations about global poverty. This is a great question to reflect on biases that we might harbour, or that are evident in public conversations about Asia.
