Assignment 1 -

A small portion of every assignment will be completed using SPSS (version 21) that is available in every computer lab at Marymount California University.  You will need to download the associated .SAV file (SPSS data file) that has the same assignment number.

Question 1. Graph the Frequency Distribution below, using a Frequency Polygon.  Don't forget to label your x- and y-axis.

X             f

4              3

3              5

2              4

1              2

Question 2. What is the Three-Fourths Rules (or Three-Quarters Rule)?

How does the Three-Fourths Rule (or Three-Quarters Rule) help prevent misrepresentation of data?

Question 3. Graph the following grouped frequency distribution.  Don't forget to label your x- and y-axis.

X              f

100-90      1

80-89        2

70-79        3

60-69        4

50-59        3

40-49        2

30-39        1

Using the SPSS .SAV file associated with this assignment, answer the following questions using the statistical program of SPSS.

Question 4. For the variable of Grades, first find the Frequency Distribution and construct it below in your answer.

Then, construct the Frequency Polygon using the Frequency Distribution for the variable Grades. Don't forget to label your graph.

Question 5. For the variable of Attendance, first find the Frequency Distribution and construct it below in your answer.

Then, construct a Bar Graph using the Frequency Distribution for the variable Attendance. Don't forget to label your graph.

Assignment 2 -

Question 1. What is Range?  Look at the equation in your book and describe in your own words what the Range tells us about the distribution of scores.

Question 2. What is the symbol for Sample Mean?

Question 2b.  What is the symbol for Population Mean?

Question 3. Use the following Frequency Distribution to answer the questions below.

Assignment 3 -

Question 1. If you rolled a six-sided die, what is the probability of getting a 6?

Question 2. What is the probability of rolling the same die and getting a 5 or 1?

Question 3. Using the same six-sided die, what's the probability of getting a 2 and a 3?

Question 4. In a raffle, 100 tickets were collected in all.  There are four grand prizes total.  If three of the tickets were already selected (and you did not win for those three), what is the probability of you winning given that three tickets were selected already?  (Note: tickets were note replaced after each draw)

Question 5. A student is flipping two coins (or one coin twice, each time).  How many ways can we get even Tails ("hits")?  Create a Frequency Table after determining the combinations.
